Research Scientist – Biology, Agronomy contract opportunity to join our Stein based client in the Agricultural and Chemical sector.
Your tasks:
- Bioassay (in vitro or in vivo) and molecular methodologies, from sample preparation to sequencing data analysis, are regularly employed to monitor resistance evolution.
- Monitoring programs require significant logistical efforts for planning sample collection, handling metadata, propagating biological material in sterile conditions, conducting and evaluating bioassays, and molecular analyses.
- Automation and standardization of processes, teamwork, and flexibility through collaboration with different subgroups of the Resistance Research Team are integral to the daily job.
- Reproducibility and high-quality results are essential.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics for sequencing analyses with software tools such as R, Geneious, Spotfire, or similar packages is beneficial.
- Support and conduct monitoring program activities (e.g., Zymoseptoria tritici, Botrytis cinerea, Plasmopara viticola, Phytophthora infestans, Alternaria spp.).
- Support and manage the logistics of incoming and outgoing sampling and biological material at the global level.
- Manage sample metadata and results from different monitoring programs.
- Assist with the isolation and cultivation of biological material.
- Extract DNA from laboratory and environmental samples (strains and bulked populations) for further molecular analysis.
- Provide support for bioassays, e.g., sterile bench work and cell counting and molecular activities (e.g., DNA extraction, primer design, single- and multiplex PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing, NGS sequencing, and cloning).
- Optimize the efficiency of bioassay and molecular protocols by adapting to sample source and pathogen diversity.
- Assist with data analysis of bioassays (e.g., EC50 calculations) and correlate results with molecular tests.
- Maintain a proactive problem-solving attitude and engage in supporting a range of projects in development within the Resistance Research Team.
- Ensure compliance with internal Health, Safety, and Environment guidelines.
Your experience/knowledge:
- Apprenticeship in Agrobiology or other technical discipline / BMS or BSc in agrobiology disciplines or equivalent professional education
- 2-3 years of experience in lab positions
- Language skills in German and/or fluency in English.
- This position is open to apprentices or master's degree holders in biology or agronomy. Some years of laboratory experience are beneficial.
